A man with special needs nearly lost the only home he knows because of his mother’s guardian
The Chambers family of Clarkston fought to save the home their parents raised them in. It is also the only home that their brother, Christian Chambers, has ever known. And it was nearly lost because of a guardianship that the family says was only in it for the money.
Christian has cerebral palsy and is limited in what he can do.
One of the things that brings the man happiness is the time he spends volunteering with the high school football team. Clarkston High School is a short walk from the house where he lives.
The Chambers’ parents created a trust to ensure that Christian could stay in the house. Within that trust was a clause that said that the house would go to Christian. A family friend, Ron Dunlap, was named as the trustee.
Dunlap told local news station WXYZ:
“It reads that it’s going to be Christian’s house forever. That was their full intent…”
Everything seemed to be settled.
Things took a dire turn in 2016. Doreen Chamber, the matriarch of the family, became incapacitated. And later that year, Christian’s father died.
